OPK’s — What You Need to Know!

1–2 minutes

OPKs (ovulation predictor kits) detect a surge in Luteinizing Hormone (LH)—the hormone that rises about 24–36 hours before ovulation.

Start testing a few days before your expected ovulation. For many, this is around cycle day 10–14, but it depends on your cycle length. For example, if you normally ovulate on CD 17, then start testing on CD 12 or 13.

A positive result means your LH surge has been detected, and ovulation is likely to happen soon. This is your most fertile window, have intercourse within the next 24–48 hours. Ideally, once you have an understanding of your ovulation window, you want to have intercourse every other day, starting 4-5 days prior to your ovulation day. You have better chances of conception if the sperm is already in the fallopian tubes when you ovulate. Remember, the sperm can live from 3-5 days in the reproductive tract of a woman.

::TIPS::

Test at the same time each day (late morning or early afternoon is best).

Avoid testing with first morning urine, it may not give accurate results.

Don’t skip a day during your fertile window.
